Wouldn’t It Be Wonderful to Help Make A Child’s Wish Come True??? ;-)

I had the honor of treating eleven of the female staff at Make- A-Wish and their CEO, Jennifer Stolo to a massage on National Wish Day, April 29, 2013.

The newly appointed and progressive CEO planned lunch, massage and dinner for her staff to show her appreciation for all of their dedication and hard work.  So many organizations do not understand the concept of employee appreciation.  Ms. Stolo said she often has to force her employees to go home because they are so altruistic. It is clear that the staff and its CEO love the work they are doing for this organization.  It was very inspirational meeting these women and hearing their stories.

Ms. Stolo’s Mother is a Oncologist Nurse at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.  Her family has always been involved in Make-A-Wish, through meeting some of the kids at the children’s hospital.

I was so inspired on my recent visit that I returned to Make-A-Wish to take a tour and learn more about this amazing organization.

These stars that hang from the ceiling in the entrance represent 1,000 wishes that have been granted.

Children who are deemed eligible to come to make a wish with this organization go through a process to aid them in making their wish.  They are assigned specific volunteers and employees who assist them in their wish decision process.  First, they are taken to a large room to view a short video about how best to make their decision.

The wishing room…

I want to meet…

I want to have…

I want to be…

Once the child decides on a wish, and they are allowed three wishes, and then they are given a key to a room where the can officially make their wish.  The room has a wishing well in it where the child makes their official wish.

The child is typically granted their first or second wish and each wish is typically around $5,000.

I plan to volunteer in some capacity and have inquired about how to do so.  Won’t  you join me? I would love to get a large group to assist me with volunteering for this wonderful organization.
